AEW Dynamite results, live blog (June 5, 2024): MJF returns (2024)

Here’s a place to check results and comment along with a new episode of AEW Dynamite, airing tonight (June 5) at 8 pm ET on TBS.

This week’s episode comes our way from Blue Arena in Loveland, Colorado, and will feature the latest build for their Forbidden Door PPV with New Japan Pro-Wrestling on June 30!

That will include Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s first Dynamite appearance of the year, on the same show where AEW World champion Swerve Strickland will defend his belt against Roderick Strong of Undisputed Kingdom (the group MJF’s ex-friend Adam Cole used to screw Max out of the World title).

We’ll also get another installment of “TV Time” with the FTW champ Chris Jericho, and an eight-man battle between a full-strength Blackpool Combat Club Moné against CMLL’s Volador Jr, Magnus, Rugido, & Esfinge. Saraya takes on Mariah May in a match originally advertised for last week, TBS champ Mercedes Moné has a prize for one lucky QR code-scanning fan... and more!

Come right back here at 8pm ET when the Dynamite live blog kicks off once the show starts on TBS. It will be below this line here.

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JUNE 5

I don’t know how to translate my deepest darkest secrets into English. Wild love, can you help me save myself with different lies while I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for these folks?

The show opens with Maxwell Jacob Friedman making his entrance and getting on the mic.

He says if his eyes look bloodshot and squinty it’s because we’re in Colorado, baby! MJF is back and he’s rocking his brand-new merch and he’s here to put everybody on notice. When he was out nursing his wounds on his beautiful couch and watching a bunch of children making bold claims on his show.

You got one guy saying he’s the Rainmaker when he can’t even afford a gym membership, you got a guy swerving around and claiming he’s the leader of the Mogul Embassy when he got turned on by everybody else in the faction. He wants to call himself a business mogul when he didn’t go to business school or, if he did, he skipped his public speaking courses?

But the most egregious claim was from a co*ckney co*ckhead running around saying he’s the best in the world, bruv. Last he checked he ain’t Chris Jericho or Jon Moxley or Bryan Danielson or Cody Rhodes or Samoa Joe or Adam Cole or Hiroshi Tanahashi, but who’s beaten all of those guys? MJF.

He tells Will Ospreay to check his mouth before he runs it the next time because the guy he says he is? Friedman is that. In five short years he became the face of AEW, from the most hated man on the planet to the most beloved, and that happened by accident babe!

Enter Rush.

He says like these stupid filthy ugly Americans, Max never shuts up. And while he’s been gone, Rush has been here working hard and winning, and now he comes back and he gets a big celebration? Where’s Rush’s celebration? When you mess with the bull, you get the horns!

Max says things were bad under Tony Khan but under the Elite things are even worse, Brandon Cutler’s running the truck, it’s terrible, he couldn’t hear Rush? Say that again? It doesn’t matter, his bank account is dry like every woman he’s ever slept with whoops, MJF took it too far.

He’s not going to pretend like he doesn’t know him, he paid him off to try and take Danielson out, he’s well aware of how talented Rush is. His family is lucha libre loyalty, some might call him a nepo baby, but he proved that wasn’t the case by selling arena after arena out in Mexico and becoming ROH World Champion and then bludgeoned the best here in AEW.

But here’s the problem— he ain’t one of the best... he’s the best. But out of respect, love and admiration for Rush, he’s going to tell him how being interrupted felt, and he drops his catchphrase on him in Spanish!

Rush attacks and they brawl until Christopher Daniels hits the ring with security to pull them apart! It takes referees and two separate security companies but eventually they get separated.

A Roderick Strong hype reel follows.

Jay Lethal vs. Kyle O’Reilly vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix (AEW International Championship #1 Contender’s Match)

Standard four-way business early, Fenix and Cassidy into it, springboard arm drag from Rey, kick combination, Lethal clobbers him with a forearm! O’Reilly returns, cleaning house, stereo roundhouse kicks with Fenix and all four guys are down and out as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Orange with a Stundog Millionaire but Kyle counters into a cross armbar! Fenix intervenes with a splash and Lethal drops an elbow on them both! Figure four leglock on Cassidy, KOR has a guillotine choke in on Fenix, shifting to a sleeper hold, Jay lets go and clobbers Kyle before chop blocking Rey!

Dragon screw on KOR blocked, cross armbar attempt, Cassidy with lazy kicks but Fenix breaks it up with a senton! Kicks of his own on Orange, Lethal Combination sets Fenix up, Lethal Injection on O’Reilly, spinning toehold reversed....

Rey Fenix wins by pinfall with a small package on Jay Lethal, becoming #1 contender to the AEW International Championship.

Post-match, Trent Beretta comes to the ring to start sh*t with Orange Cassidy again. Cassidy gets back on his feet and in the ring and no Trent ,but Kris Statlander is in the ring with a chain and cold-co*cks him on the jaw! Willow Nightingale makes the save!

Chris Jericho arrives at the arena and obnoxiously offers the driver tips on drving before admonishing the camera operator on not holding the camera straight enough. They head in the building and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Willow Nightingale is interviewed backstage.

She faces facts and admits she lost and Mercedes Mone is the AEW TBS Championship, but they have a score to settle after the visual pin she got. She doesn’t trust Stokely as far as she can throw him, which is further than you’d think, but Kris Statlander betrayed her trust.

She always says she’s driven by her smile, but after being stabbed in the back you don’t know how dangerous she can be. Orange Cassidy rolls up with a lazy fist bump by way of thanks.

Christopher Daniels comes out to introduce another AEW TNT Championship qualifying match.

Brian Cage vs. Mark Briscoe (AEW TNT Championship Qualifying Match)

Briscoe probing, sending Cage to the floor with boots, Brian turns it around and stomps a proverbial mudhole in Mark before throwing him into the barricade! Pulling him up on the apron, deadlift superplex connects and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Briscoe with elbows, off the ropes, flying forearm, big chops, big boot in the corner, block a short-arm lariat, exploder suplex counters for two! Setting up a chair, step-up tope con giro and Mark is feeling himself! Back inside, cover for two, pumphandle facebuster into a revolution Liger Bomb but Briscoe won’t stay down!

Cage calls for it, rolling elbow gets a superkickk, duck a discus lariat, Sick Kick into a California Roll and Briscoe is rolling! Off the top...

Mark Briscoe wins by pinfall wtih Froggy Bow, securing a spot in the AEW TNT Championship ladder match at Forbidden Door.

“SCAPEGOAT” Jack Perry cuts a promo at the TV screen backstage about how he’s already proven nobody will sacrifice as much as he will, and he’s proven he won’t be stopped, and one way or the other he is the next TNT Champion.

Samoa Joe and HOOK are interviewed backstage.

Tony Nese, Ari Daivari, and Mark Sterling roll up and Tony taunts HOOK about his physique. Joe holds him back and says dogs like them don’t talk to killers like them unless they think they’re gonna get away with it, and they’ll handle it on their time.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, the Learning Tree roll up on 2.0 backstage.

Chris Jericho congratulations them on their increased personal success and gives Daddy Magic commentary tips (to which he tells Big Bill to shove it up his ass) and Cool Hand Ang parenting tips. Bryan Keith tells Parker to make sure the baby respects Chris Jericho.

The Acclaimed make their entrance and the Young Bucks cut Max Caster’s mic and cites the handbook at them for disparaging EVPs. Their segment is cut and they have to get out now.

Renee Paquette interviews Shane Strickland backstage.

He says Roderick Strong talks about climbing mountains, well he’s dealing with THE mountain, and he’s going to bury him under it. He says the next time Team AEW gets assembled you don’t forget the AEW World champion, because this is his house.

We get a video package for Mercedes Mone vs. Stephanie Vaquer.

Blackpoor Combat Club (“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, & Wheeler YUTA) vs. Esfinge & Los Depredadores (Magnus, Rugido, & Volador, Jr.)

All four men pairing off, Esfinge and YUTA in the ring together and brawling, Moxley choking Rugido on the floor, now Danielson with Rugido in the ring together. Esfinge takes Mox and Claudio out with a double dropkick, off the ropes, dropkick, Volador with a diving Frankensteiner on Castagnoli!

Bryan in the ropes, Magnus with a Tiger feint kick, Rugido cover for two! YUTA off the ropes, leapfrogs, Magnus with a tijeras, sidestep, chops, tearing at the CMLL man’s mask! Charging, Blackpool working Magnus over, Danielson and Moxley with a Hart Attack, Fastball Special from Claudio and Wheeler and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Castagnoli with knees to Magnus, overhead elbows and kicks to the bicep, Esfinge in, big monkey flip, another one, rolling inverted Indian deathlock, into a bridge, but Claudio pops out! Fireman’s carry front slam, springboard splash misses, Jon runs in with an Ace Crusher!

Rugido pops in, German suplex, YUTA with a back suplex, Magnus with a corner lariat into corner knees, Castagnoli double legs him into the Giant Swing... MOXLEY WITH THE DROPKICK! Volador with a tijeras, off the ropes... WORLD LINER BUT DANIELSON BREAKS IT UP! Chest kicks on Volador, he ducks a lariat, tag to Rugido, dropkick on the Ragon, snap scoop powerslam on YUTA!

Whip across, huge hip toss, cover... NOPE! Match breaks down, Rugido rolls Wheeler up, only two, Olympic Slam takes him down, seatbelt... IT’S OVER!

Blackpool Combat Club win by pinfall with a seatbelt pin from Wheeler YUTA on Rugido.

We get a Daniel Garcia video package.

The Young Bucks refuse to meet with the Acclaimed over cutting their segment and send them packing to send us to break.

Back from commercial, the Patriarchy meet with the Young Bucks backstage.

Christian Cage wants another title shot to make up for getting screwed at Double or Nothing. Matthew Jackson says if they had it their way they’d hand out belts to them but when they tried to do that for Jack Perry last week Christopher Daniels screwed it up. They’re gonna see what they can do and they’ll all continue scratching each other’s backs.

Mariah May vs. Saraya

Toni Storm is on commentary for this one.

May with dropkicks out the gates, spinning side slam, to the floor, Saraya with a big superkick on the outside to send us to break!

Back from commercial, May with an elbow in the corner, Saraya up top, double chop, handspring Frankensteiner out of the corner! Hip attack, cover for two, back and forth, Saraya with Rampaige... MARIAH KICKS OUT! Zak Knight shouts strategy from ringside, double leg, step-through, May catches her, inside cradle for two!

Superkick from Saraya, stepping through again, Scorpion Crosslock applied inthe middle of the ring! Mariah looking to Toni at ringside...

Saraya wins by submission with the Scorpion Crosslock.

Post-match, Toni shucks her heels and slides into the ring to check on Mariah May but Harley Cameron and Saraya beat them down while Zak holds Luther back! MINA SHIRAKAWA MAKES THE SAVE! Uraken sets up a rolling elbow and the Outcasts are packing while she checks on Mariah! Bumping tit* with Toni, May plays peacemaker and holds them both to her own bosom, bestill my lesbian heart!

The Learning Tree run into Private Party backstage and Jericho advises them to change their name to Public Party. Thanks but no thanks, respectfully, and Bryan Keith steps up to shout “DISRESPECT!” at them. Big Bill holds him back, and Jericho invites them to TV Time next week.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Bryan Danielson cuts a promo.

He talks about what a blessing it is to see a guy like Wheeler YUTA come back from four months off and get the big win. He talks about how he said eight months ago he was only gonna do another year, but with four months left it hasn’t been what he wanted it to be. He missed a chance to win the TNT title, he lost the Continental Classic, he lost to Okada, and he loses and loses and loses.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was losing in Anarchy in the Arena. He was real down about it and talked to Wheeler about how fired up he was to come back, and he realized his year ain’t over yet, and since the winner of the Owen is getting the All In title match, he got fired up one more time.

It might be his last shot, but it’s his best shot, and he’s going out on top.

Roderick Strong vs. Shane “Swerve” Strickland (c) (AEW World Championship)

Circling, leg pick from Strong, into the ropes, Swerve with a hip toss, suplex blocked, float over, kick the leg out from under him, House Call ducked and Roddy bails to the floor for a breather and a pep talk from Matt Taven. Back inside, chops in the corner, Shane hangs his leg up in the ropes and kicks it!

Kicking the knee, chops, whip reversed, Strong bounces off the turnbuckles! Shane up top, Taven runs interference, Roddy shoves the champion, gets under him, backbreaker into the turnbuckles! Kick out of the ropes, to the floor, Strickland catapults him hard into the ringpost as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Swerve fighting to his feet, Strong clobbers him with a knee lift, fireman’s carry gutbuster... REVERSED INTO A SWERVE STOMP! Shane with a diving corkscrew uppercut, fired up, fireman’s carry drops him throat-first across th ropes, rolling thunder reverse STO connects!

Vertical suplex, cover for two! Mike Bennett runs interference, O’Connor roll with tights but Shane kicks out! Powerslam, cover for two! To the floor, Roddy with a Crash Landing into the apron! Back inside, looking to finish it, laying forearms in, back elbow, Swerve back into it, he eats a Codebreaker!

Strong off the ropes, elbows to the jaw in passing, Olympic Slam connects, roll through, underhooks... GIBSON DRIVER! JUMPING KNEE! SO CLOSE! To the apron, drawing Swerve up, back eblows and chops from the champion, kick sets Roddy hanging, slingshot Swerve Stomp to the floor!

Knee blocked this time, House Call connects... IT’S OVER!

Shane “Swerve” Strickland wins by pinfall with the House Call, retaining the AEW World Championship.

Strickland celebrates with the crowd.

That’s the show, folks.
